How to Repair a Travertine Tile Shower with Epoxy

Travertine tile shower is appealing and elegant, but may at times require some repairs. Common problems include chips, cracks and holes, usually caused by a lack of proper maintenance and care, misusage or accidents. Here are the steps involved to repair these problems by yourself.

What You'll Need:
  • Cloth
  • Small brush
  • Putty knife
  • Epoxy
  • Sponge

Step 1: Clean the Area

First of all, you need to clean the area properly. Wipe it with a damp cloth, and make sure to remove any dust, debris or other residue from the hole or around the crack. You may need a small brush to dust away any residue.

Step 2: Filling with Epoxy

Once the area has been cleaned, you can proceed to fill it up with epoxy resin or grout. This is a tile filler which, if applied properly, will repair the chip, crack or hole effectively. Try to match its color as much as possible to the color of the tile. Use a putty knife to apply the epoxy, and make sure to fill the chip, crack or hole. Spread it as neatly as you can by trying to gain a level surfacing that is linear with the rest of the tile.

Step 3: Finishing up

Once done, wipe away any excess with a rag or sponge. You will need to act swiftly so as not to allow too much time for the epoxy to set.
